Head Custodian/Maintenance Technician

Position Summary

The head custodian and school maintenance technician will oversee the custodial operations and maintenance activities within our school. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who possesses strong supervisory skills and technical knowledge in facility maintenance. The primary responsibilities will entail managing custodial staff, coordinating maintenance tasks, ensuring a clean and safe environment, and addressing repairs and maintenance needs.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and provide guidance to custodial staff, including assigning tasks, scheduling work shifts, and ensuring work quality and efficiency.
  • Coordinate and perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, sanitizing, and ensuring that facilities are in working order (e.g., plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC systems, etc.).
  • Conduct regular inspections of the school premises to identify maintenance needs and safety hazards, and promptly report and address them.
  • Oversee the inventory of custodial and maintenance supplies by forecasting needs, placing orders, and maintaining records.
  • Assist in developing and implementing maintenance schedules and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Manage the repair and maintenance of equipment, machinery, and fixtures.
  • Collaborate with school administration and staff to understand facility maintenance needs and prioritize tasks accordingly.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards and report any safety violations or incidents to appropriate personnel.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to coordinate repairs, renovations, and equipment installations.
  • Assist in budget planning and monitoring for custodial and maintenance expenses.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks, repairs, and related documentation.
  • Provide excellent customer service when interacting with students, staff, parents, and visitors.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in custodial and facility maintenance, including knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment maintenance, repair techniques, and building systems.
  • Previous supervisory experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and maintenance standards.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve maintenance issues.
  • Proficiency in using basic hand and power tools.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and emergencies.
  • Positive attitude and ability to motivate and lead a team.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including lifting heavy objects and standing for extended periods.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy items (up to 50 pounds) as necessary.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work from heights, and maneuver in tight spaces.
  • Stamina to perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, and walking for extended periods.
